No Plan Required! Building Your Future Now

No Plan Required! Building Your Future Now Do you have a vision or a dream to do something especially when it comes to your career? Well, that is an amazing thing! That just might be the most important foundation to have because you can build on that. If you love to do something or have a strong desire to accomplish a goal you have just set up yourself for something wonderful and specialif you stick with ita gift that will be given to you over and over again. But you need to work at it. Learn. Get burned. Gain experience by doing. Collaborating with others that share your desire for success. There is no way around ityou must DO to learn. You must fail before you succeed. You must miss a shot in order to learn and make future shots. It is the nature of success. And a plan. Do you have one? We all need one. Maybe a loose one with no set time limits or restrictions. Its just go! However, some of us need onecrave one. And thats good! But life doesnt care about your plan (case in point: unexpected things happen all the time.) So if you have a vision or a dream dont make an excuse that you need a plan. If you believe that it can happen (and have at least some research done) then head out on the highway and get going! Image: Amarily Morano

How to Write a Third Person Resume - Why You Need to Know How to Use the Personal Pronouns and First Person Format

How to Write a Third Person Resume - Why You Need to Know How to Use the Personal Pronouns and First Person FormatThe first thing you have to learn when you learn how to write a third person resume is that you have to know how to go about writing the third person resume correctly. First off, if you're going to go about writing your resume in the third person, then you need to use both your title and your personal pronouns to refer to yourself. There are three reasons why this is important; one, you will be able to use your own person as a title when you give employers some information about yourself. Two, it's used to indicate that the writer for the company has his own credentials to refer to.Thirdly, it will give the reader a sense of comfort to understand that you are talking about yourself when you're using personal pronouns. The idea here is to make sure that it reads like you are talking about yourself. When you first start out writing a third person resume, the first thing you n eed to do is set up an outline. It's easiest to write a rough outline of your goals and hopes for the job.Once you've made your outlines, write your letters of recommendation and write them on paper before you begin writing the rest of the letters. Of course, you should always make sure that your references are giving their information on paper, not just by email. The bottom line is to include your contact information as it should be, including your name, address, phone number, email, and even some web address. Having a contact person somewhere on your cover letter will help the employer determine whether they should call you back. The fourth person that you're going to want to learn how to write a third person resume is your job description. The job description should also be included with the second and third person resumes. The job description needs to say what it is you do, what you expect from the job, and what the work environment and office atmosphere will be like. This gives th e employer a feel for the job and it also gives the reader a sense of comfort.

Status Anxiety and The What Do You Do Question

Status Anxiety and The What Do You Do Question The first question you tend to get asked when you meet someone at a party isso what do you do? And according to how impressive your answer is, people are either keen to get to know you better, or swiftly  leave you behind by the nuts. Were anxious because we live in a world of snobs, people who take a tiny part of us our professional identities and use these to come to a complete verdict about how valuable we are as humans. The above text is about the first 20 seconds of a fantastic video discussing status anxiety and our careers. I think many of us can relate to a career that isnt going as we planned. Having to explain why you havent made it yet to friends and family especially this time of year. I used to think I only had myself to blame for where I ended up in this life, but it turns out this is a dangerous mindset to hold. Despite the loads of opportunities and freedom we have to make choices that help us get where we want to go, not everything in this world is under our control or power. But despite the large amount of factors outside of our control that have an overwhelming impact on your career, Meritocracy still has us feeling poorly about ourselves when things dont work out as we planned. And thats bad. Success can be defined by more than your job or accomplishments in the work place. Refuse to believe that any society can really be meritocratic. Luck or accident continue to determine a critical share of where people end up in the hierarchy. Treat no on -not least yourself as though they entirely deserve to be where they are. If youve struggled with confidence or anxiety related to your career and accomplishments, I highly recommend checking out the video below.

A Curriculum For Resume Writing For High School Students

A Curriculum For Resume Writing For High School StudentsA good resume can help you get into college, but it should not be a checklist, but rather a lesson plan. The career path that you choose to go down should depend on what you can learn and understand when attending school. Some colleges and universities offer the option of 'general' courses, which are introductory subjects such as math or science, and all students are offered the opportunity to take the basic career options in these classes. These courses are also offered through online as well as classroom methods. While it is nice to have this choice, many high school students take these classes without even knowing how much they can really learn during this first experience. What if you want to learn more about careers or job opportunities that you can get into right after high school? This is the perfect situation because there are college-level courses that allow high school students to not only take the basic options but also take electives that help them enhance their knowledge of the topic. After all, it is so much easier to focus on studying and learning when you are in your teenage years than it is when you are adults! This is a perfect example of how the curriculum can be tailored to help high school students get better grades and learn how to succeed in college while making a positive impact on their future career. There are also some online courses that can be taken to help students learn everything from basic algebra to advanced calculus. It doesn't matter what type of education you are seeking, whether it is for college or for high school, but you can work with your high school counselor to find a program that is best suited for your needs.Online programs are wonderful because it allows high school students to pursue their career goals. They do not have to be separated from their families or attend an uncomfortable campus setting. Students can study whenever they want to and can receive feedback from teachers, professors, and fellow students. One way that these online programs allow high school students to improve their grades is by creating a resume. This is the best way to prepare for an interview and other job opportunities. Having a resume prepared can help in the interview process, and it can also help with the hiring process.Resumes serve as collateral for employment and once you have been hired it is important to ensure that you have a great resume. A resume is like a research tool and it will help get you where you want to go. If you know where you want to go, it is a lot easier to get there. While resumes should be an important part of your overall planning for college, it is essential that you have the proper planning to make sure that you do not spend too much time on these documents. Writing a resume is an important part of your preparation, but it is a small portion of the entire job. Taking your time and making sure that you have good information before you sta rt is essential to your success.

Fix It Friday No One Said It Would Be Easy To Find the Hiring Manager

Fix It Friday No One Said It Would Be Easy To Find the Hiring Manager No one said it would be easy to find the hiring manager. Fix it Friday is about helping job seekers do it better. Why is finding the hiring manager so important, yet so difficult? Because job search has changed. Find The Hiring Manager Conundrum Recently, someonecommented on a post I wrote: There is no way to find the hiring manager or anyone else on the inside. If he does find a human to speak to, he is always instructed to fill out an online application, and there typically is no way to follow up. The Problem Is First of all, stop playing the job board game. Youll lose!I know it seems like the best and easiest way to find a new job, but did you know: 75% of applicants are weeded OUT by ATS (applicant tracking systems) INFOGRAPHIC here Less than 20% of people secure a job offer applying online. Source of Hiredata here And, youll become frustrated with the lack of response, lose motivation, start blaming other people and eventually drop out of the search altogether. Ok, maybe thats a bit doom and gloom. But seriously, look at the people you know who did secure a new job. How did they do it? Ask them. Learn how to get referred using the Two-Step The Fix To Finding The Hiring Manager: To answer the question, yes, there is always a way to find a hiring manager. And in case you are wondering, the hiring manager is NOT human resources. It is the person in charge of the department you want to work in. Dont chase jobs, chase people. Find someone who works inside the company (anyone will do) by asking everyone you know if they know anyone in the company you are interested in. If you ask 100 people (and you know more than 100 people, right?) will you come up empty-handed? Most of the time, no. But that can happen, especially if the company is small. Ask everyone you know who they know this question: Do you know anyone who works at ABC company. I am interested in learning more about whats going on over there. Notice you are not stating you are looking for a job. Why wouldnt you say that? Because the minute you do, the response is, go to the website and fill out an online application. And that is the last thing you want to do! Pick Up the darn phone. You will not get the name of the hiring manager. You will get the name of someone who works there and that is good first step. Invite the company insider to meet with you or have a real-live phone conversation. You need this type of interaction to make a strong connection. If you take the shortcut and use email to ask questions about the company (not about a job), you run the risk of falling low on their list of priorities and get lost in the shuffle. Once youve had a conversation and established a rapport with the insider, ask who oversees the department you want to work in and ask if they could make an introduction. If you dont ask, the answer will always be Learn How To Use LinkedIn Simultaneously, search for the company on LinkedIn and see who works there. Look for people you know or have connections to. If/when you find someone, reach out and ask for a meeting or conversation about whats happening at their company and why they like working there. Is this difficult? Yes! Do it anyway. Most job seekers wont do these things or wont do them well. If you dont find someone you know, do what this woman did and reach out cold. This is how one career changer landed ajob with her dream company. The Shift In Job Search Possibly the biggest change you need to know about is how the job search is conducted. Rather than scouring job boards for openings, ambitious job seekers take a pro-active approach by identifying companies they would like to work for. This target list of companies becomes the focal point for all activities with a high rate of return- networking, informational meetings, outreach and clear positioning. You can learn more about target listsin these posts: How To Find Target Companies for Your Job Search Finding Contacts Within Your Target Companies Take A Look In The Mirror If you are thinking, I tried all this and it didnt work, ask yourself these questions: Did I exhaust every resource possible? How many people did I reach out to? What did I say which may have led to the wrong response? Is my network big enough (do I know enough people?) How was my attitude? Did I sound confident and inquisitive or did I come across as negative or desperate? Are you a fit within the company you are applying to? It isnt just about skills. It isnt easy to find the hiring manager, but be persistent. Do you have a job search question you need help with? Submit it and Ill answer your question in a future Fix It Friday! Dont Kill Your Career Attitudes Change Your Workplace

Dont Kill Your Career Attitudes Change Your Workplace Your attitude at work can change your career in ways you may not expect.  Just as  workplace gossip  is seen as a problem, so are rudeness and apathy. These attitudes may not be overtly hostile, but they cause damage all the same and can stop your career in its tracks. Call centers train their workers to smile when they speak on the phone to customers. This is because a smile is heard in the voice even when you cant see the speaker and will influence the hearer. If something so simple as a smile will change the way you are heard on the phone, imagine how much your attitude changes the way you interact with your co-workers and customers! Gossip is a trap many fall into because it is so easy to talk about other people. The long-term effects of gossip are seen with strife in the workplace, time-wasting, and the gossip being considered untrustworthy. Dont listen to gossip and dont pass it on. Rudeness will cause folks to back away and go somewhere else. Why be treated like that when it is easy to find an alternative? There are many reasons given as an excuse for rudeness, and not one of them changes the initial reaction. You may win someone back by apologizing, but its better to avoid the problem by thinking about how your attitudes and actions affect other people. Treat others kindly, just like youd like them to treat you. Apathy is like quicksand. The longer you sit in it, the harder it is to get out. If you feel like what you are doing every day is worth little, then apathy sets in quickly. No matter where you are in life, apathy changes the way you see your life and the way you interact with others. A wise man once noted that investing in something makes it precious to you. Start putting effort into a task or a person and that task or person becomes important. My earlier example of the smile over the phone left out one important factor: that smile did not have to be felt by the smiler in order to be heard by the caller. Your voice changes when your lips are shaped into a smile. In the same way, your attitudes are not at the mercy of your feelings at the moment.  Choose to have a good attitude and see how your workplace changes around you and your career opportunities open up.
